The United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC) sits at the foot of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro and was founded in 1991 by American-born Pete O’Neal. UAACC’s mission is providing programs and projects for the enrichment of the Arusha community, improving the lives of children from extremely disadvantaged homes, and those who for various reasons have not been able to continue their formal public education. The current population of Arusha is estimated around 341,000 and most families are estimated to have at least five children. The average household income for residence living in Arusha is about $50US per month in the rural area.
Mr. O’Neal and wife Charlotte (affectionately known as Mama C) has built a homestead where the UAACC is a central educational component of the community. UAACC’s educational offerings are classes in English and Spanish languages, basic computer, painting, sewing, music production with an emphasis on indigenous instruments, carpentry, photography/video editing, and yoga. New classes are available at the Center every three months for 50 incoming students.
In 2008, The O’Neal’s opened the Leaders of Tomorrow Children’s Home where they’ve adopted 29 disadvantaged children as part of their family. Under the guidance of the O’Neal’s, the children are learning leadership roles and how to become educated global citizens. In efforts to support this large family, UAACC has developed opportunities for the global community to experience Tanzania like never before. UAACC extends cultural enrichment and study abroad programs for foreigners who are interested in African history.
Through these special initiatives, Pete O’Neal and his wife Charlotte took their passion and dedication to the basic needs of education and
growth of character to positively influence and drive the importance of education within their community. Now, we have the ability to make a similar impact. Paint the Globe Foundation is taking the same passion to Tanzania. Gabriel, the President, Founder, & Chair will be working directly with the 'Leaders of the Future' along with the students from the community to conduct art workshops. Specifically, he will be teaching them how to use resources within the community to create mixed media art that they can sell in their local market to generate money. He also will be providing guidance with regards to film and photography, website design, graphic design and more. Gabriel will be filming the entire experience, conducting interviews, and will create a series of mini documentaries to tell the story of UAACC, Tanzania, and how Paint the Globe Foundation was able to make a difference.
Gabriel's partner Deidra Mwalimu will also be actively present, working with the young girls providing guidance and wisdom with regards to women's rights, equality, and other relevant issues that affect young women within their community.
Every interaction in life is a teachable moment, an opportunity to learn or grow into who we were meant to become. Through this campaign, we will be teaching about the importance of using art, an avenue of learning, as a way to grow independence, gain freedom, build hope, and become resourceful. We want to promote learning through creativity and vice versa, giving children everywhere the opportunity to unlock their own human potential.
