March 2021 - Monduli District, Mondu region - northern tanzania
Kutoa Kwa Boma - To Give to the Boma
Project Summary
Paint the Globe Foundation fulfilled its promise from last year to help a community of Maasai in the Monduli District in Northern Tanzania. We successfully delivered over a years worth of art and school supplies for 52 children, as well as mobilized a community of over 65 women with feminine hygiene products, fabrics and more. We held dialogue discussing their needs for community development and were informed that they continuously suffer from a lack of water and a source of electricity.
As a result of the lack of water, they were forced to move, thus further delaying the process of building a primary school for their children. After they returned, due to a lack of resources they have only completed the construction of the foundation of the school. Currently, they conduct all of their schooling under a large shade tree where the children learn sitting on stones.
The Maasai are among the tribes that have been marginalized in terms of education provision. These are largely nomadic pastoralists who have been migrating from one place to another leading to difficulties in terms of providing education to them. In addition, the Maasai are a patriarchal people, and these cultural practices result in females lagging behind males in education creating a clear gap in educational opportunity.
During this visit, PTGF and our affiliate NOW (Network of Women) program delivered over 200 pounds of art and school supplies, as well as a repository of women’s hygiene and wellness materials. Our goal is to continue to foster and expand our relationship with communities in East Africa and assist marginalized communities around the world. Education has long been considered as a fundamental human right as it is the key to sustainable development, peace and stability within and among countries. It is an indispensable means for effective participation in society and the economy.
